About
Professor Jeremy Staff is Professor of Sociology and Criminology with dual appointment in Demography at Pennsylvania State University. His research examines how employment experiences during adolescence relate to antisocial behavior and academic achievement, and how early-life problem behaviors impact long-term health, educational attainment, labor market outcomes, and family formation.
Current NIH-funded projects investigate alcohol use patterns during adolescence and their impacts on educational and occupational outcomes. Key research areas include:
- Adolescent employment and its developmental consequences
- Alcohol use trajectories from adolescence to adulthood
- E-cigarette and tobacco policy impacts
- Union formation and family transitions
- Mental health across the life course
Professor Staff's recent publications leverage longitudinal data from the National Child Development Study (NCDS), British Cohort Study, and Millennium Cohort Study to examine substance use patterns, policy impacts on vaping behaviors, and changing family formation trajectories.
