Jeremy Slack is Associate Professor and Department Chair of Geography at the University of Texas at El Paso's Department of Sociology and Anthropology. His research examines deportation impacts, border violence, and migration policies.
Slack directs the NSF-funded Immigration and Border Communities REU program, training undergraduates in community-based research methods. His book 'Deported to Death' analyzes how drug violence transforms migration patterns along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Research interests include state-cartel interactions, migrant kidnapping, asylum policy impacts, and participatory research methodologies. Slack's work has been supported by the Ford Foundation, Open Society Foundation, and National Science Foundation.
