Jeremy Jones is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Western Carolina University, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. He specializes in creative nonfiction writing and research, focusing on family connections and regional identity. Jones holds an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from the University of Iowa and a BA in English and Religious Studies from Elon University. His work has been widely recognized, including the Appalachian Book of the Year (2014) and a gold medal in the 2015 Independent Publisher Book Awards.
His research explores themes of place, heritage, and personal history, reflected in his books and essays published in Oxford American, Garden & Gun, and Our State Magazine. He co-edits the In Place nonfiction series for West Virginia University Press.
Teaching interests include creative writing and literary nonfiction. His upcoming book, Cipher (2025), delves into ancestral secrets through recovered diaries. Jones is actively engaged with Appalachian cultural narratives and community-based writing projects.
