Jenny Zhang

Jenny Zhang is a Research Fellow in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. Her work focuses on microbial-material/environment interactions, particularly in coral bleaching, photosynthesis, and bioremediation.

• Research Interests: Environmental microbiology, biogeochemical cycles, chemical biology, and synthetic biology.
• Collaborations: Biochemistry, Earth Sciences, and Zoology departments.

She develops chemical biology and biophysical methods, including time-resolved spectroelectrochemistries and in operando microscopies, to study photosynthetic microorganisms under environmental stress. Her team applies these tools to improve climate solutions through bioremediation and semi-artificial photosynthesis.

Her publications highlight advancements in bioelectrochemistry, electron transport, and solar energy conversion. Key projects include electrode engineering for solar water splitting and understanding microbial consortia in toxin removal.
