Dr. Jenny Benham is a Senior Lecturer in Medieval History at Cardiff University's School of History, Archaeology and Religion. Her research focuses on peace, diplomacy, and international law in the medieval period (500–1250), with particular expertise in medieval Scandinavia and espionage. She holds notable awards including a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship (2023–2024) and a Senior Fellowship at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies. Benham has authored several books, including International Law in Europe, 700–1200 (2022), and edited volumes on medieval law and language. She currently supervises PhD students researching medieval diplomacy, legal history, and warfare.
Her research projects include the Leverhulme-funded 'Voices of Law: Language, Text and Practice' network and the AHRC-funded 'Early English Laws' project. She has held roles outside academia, including project officer for the Early English Laws initiative and teacher at Civitas School in Great Yarmouth.
