About
Jennifer Taback is the Isaac Henry Wing Professor of Mathematics at Bowdoin College, where she chairs the Department of Mathematics. Her work spans geometric and combinatorial group theory, focusing on metric properties, quasi-isometries, and automaticity of groups.
She earned her
- PhD and MA in Mathematics from the University of Chicago
- BA in Mathematics from Yale University
Research interests include:
- Quasi-isometric rigidity of groups like PSL(2,Z[1/p]) and Baumslag-Solitar groups
- Thompson's group F and its metric and combinatorial properties
- Lamplighter and Diestel-Leader groups
- Automatic and graph automatic group structures
- Twisted conjugacy classes and Dehn functions
Her recent publications explore graph automaticity, metric properties, and geometric embeddings, with key collaborations with Sean Cleary, Peter Wong, and Melanie Stein. She actively engages in mathematical outreach, including running the Bowdoin College Math Circle and advising the Association for Women in Mathematics student chapter.
