Jennifer Newton

Dr. Jennifer Newton is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Trent University, specializing in bioarchaeology with regional focus on Southeast Asia and Mesoamerica. She serves as bioarchaeologist for the Ka'kabish Archaeological Research Project in Belize.

Her research examines:

• Ancient health patterns through skeletal analysis
• Cultural dental modifications
• Mortuary archaeology
• Impacts of agricultural transitions

Fieldwork includes extensive work at Iron Age sites in Cambodia and Pre-Angkorian settlements, with current focus on Mayan archaeological sites in Belize. Her publications address ethical dimensions of bioarchaeological research alongside osteological analyses.

At Trent's Ka'kabish Archaeological Research Laboratory, she leads investigations of dental calculus, paleopathology, and migration patterns in ancient Mesoamerican populations.
