Jennifer Murray

Dr. Jennifer Murray is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Guelph, within the College of Social & Applied Human Sciences. She holds a PhD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on the neural mechanisms underlying drug addiction, particularly investigating how learning processes contribute to addiction development and maintenance in substances like nicotine, cocaine, and opioids. She was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2023.

Education: B.S. in Psychology (University of Nebraska-Kearney), Ph.D. in Biopsychology (University of Nebraska-Lincoln), Postdoctoral training at the University of Cambridge, and prior roles as Research Assistant Professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Research emphasizes addiction, interoception, and motivation. Her lab studies drug-induced behavioral changes, conditioned learning, and hormonal influences on addiction relapse. Awards include the 2023 University of Guelph Research Excellence Award. She teaches courses in neuroscience and collaborates on grants addressing cocaine relapse, tobacco constituents, and addiction phenotypes.

Lab involvement includes undergraduate and graduate students working on independent study projects. Current grants include CIHR Bridge Fund (2023-2024) and NSERC DG (2019-2024).
