Jennifer Murphy

Jennifer Murphy is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on environmental and atmospheric chemistry, particularly the acidity of atmospheric particles and their role in climate and air quality. She leads the Murphy Research Group, which conducts field measurements of reactive nitrogen compounds and investigates their environmental impacts.

Research interests include urban air quality, climate change, acid precipitation, and ecosystem function. Her group has conducted Arctic fieldwork (2014, 2016) to study NH3 sources and fate. Recent work emphasizes organic acids' growing influence on aerosol ion balance amid declining inorganic acid emissions.
