Dr. Jennifer Mooney is an Assistant Professor at the School of English, Dublin City University (DCU), and chairs the MA in Children’s and Young Adult Literature program. She is also the president of The Irish Society for the Study of Children’s Literature. Her research focuses on children’s and young adult literature, particularly contemporary YA realism, genders/sexualities in YA, and YA poetry. She has published a monograph, Feminist Discourse in Irish Literature: Gender and Power in Louise O'Neill's Young Adult Fiction (2022), and is co-editing The Routledge Companion to Young Adult Literature (forthcoming 2026). Her work explores YA literature’s engagement with societal issues like gender, power dynamics, and consent.
Dr. Mooney’s creative expertise includes playwrighting for stage and radio. She supervises PhD students (e.g., Siba Ewaiwi, Ashly Isac) and coordinates modules such as EL503, EL504, and others. Her affiliations include the Irish Centre for Poetry Studies and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at DCU.
