Jennifer Maher is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Department of English at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), with a focus on the Communication & Technology Track. She is also an affiliate faculty member in the Language, Literacy, and Culture Ph.D. program.

Maher's research explores rhetorics of technology, the discipline of Rhetoric and Composition, and the city of Baltimore. Her work interrogates the moral and political implications of software development, health communication, and infrastructure design.
Her recent publications highlight intersections of public health rhetoric, AI ethics, and social justice. Themes include health disparities, digital democracy, and the ethics of computational systems.

Maher co-developed the open-access Miami Writing Institute and currently works on a book about infrastructure rhetorics tied to Baltimore. She serves on the editorial board of Technical Communication Quarterly.
