Jennifer M. Miller

Jennifer M. Miller is an Associate Professor of History at Dartmouth College specializing in U.S. foreign relations since 1945, particularly interactions with Northeast Asia. Her scholarship examines how U.S.-East Asian relations transformed concepts of democracy, citizenship, and economic growth. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in international history.

Miller's publications include the award-winning book Cold War Democracy: The United States and Japan (Harvard, 2019), which analyzes democracy-building efforts in postwar Japan. Recent research explores trans-Pacific migrations, World War II's legacy, and the societal impacts of prolonged warfare. Her courses address themes of U.S. empire, World War II in the Pacific, and migration history.

Her current projects examine Japan's role in the Vietnam War and ideological intersections between neo-conservatism and neo-Confucianism. Miller's work has appeared in journals including Modern Intellectual History and edited volumes such as The Cambridge History of the Vietnam War.
