She has been a faculty member since 2005 and leads observational astronomy research focused on stellar abundances, galactic evolution, and nucleocosmochronology.
Education:
- Ph.D., 1999, Astronomy & Astrophysics, University of California at Santa Cruz
- B.A., 1993, Physics, Carleton College
Research Interests: Johnson investigates the origin of elements through studies of metal-poor stars, abundance ratios in Galactic globular clusters, and the metallicity history of the Galactic bulge. She chairs the SDSS-III APOGEE survey, a major near-IR spectroscopic initiative mapping the Galaxy, and contributes to the SDSS SEGUE surveys' optical spectroscopy analyses.
