About
Dr. Jennifer Edwards is a Reader in Physical Chemistry and Director of ED&I at Cardiff University's School of Chemistry. Her research focuses on catalysis and sustainable chemical processes, particularly the development of novel materials for heterogeneous and photo catalysis. Her work includes optimizing catalysts for hydrogen peroxide synthesis, photocatalytic water sanitization, and CO2 sequestration. She leads the Cardiff Catalysis Institute and collaborates with global industries to advance green chemistry and circular economy initiatives. Edwards holds a PhD in heterogeneous catalysis from Cardiff University (2006) and has conducted postdoctoral research at Tokyo Metropolitan University and TU Berlin. She has been recognized with the Carol Tyler Award (2011) and Clara Immerwahr award (2013).
Her research spans photocatalytic disinfection (e.g., SunPad technology), bimetallic nanoparticle synthesis, and valorization of waste streams. She is actively involved in industrial partnerships and supervises postgraduate research in catalysis and materials science. Key areas of expertise include precious metal catalyst design, solvent-free oxidation processes, and sustainable chemical transformations.
Her recent work emphasizes photocatalytic materials for water treatment and eco-friendly industrial applications, leveraging collaborations with computational and microscopy experts. Edwards is open to supervising PhD candidates and supporting fellowship applications in catalysis and interfacial science.
