Dr. Jenn Fishman is an Associate Professor of English and Co-Director of the Ott Memorial Writing Center at Marquette University. She also serves as Chief Capacitator of the Writing Innovation Symposium. Her roles include directing First-Year English programs and leading grant-funded research projects. Fishman specializes in rhetoric and composition, with expertise in writing studies, community listening practices, and feminist rhetorics.
Her research focuses on longitudinal studies of college writing, undergraduate research methodologies, and editorial work in scholarly communication. She has authored/co-authored two books: The Naylor Report on Undergraduate Research in Writing (2020) and Telling Stories: Perspectives on Longitudinal Research in Writing Studies (2023). Current projects include Community Listening: Hauntings, Stories, Possibilities and College Writing Writ Large.
Fishman holds leadership roles in professional organizations such as the Coalition of Feminist Scholars in the History of Rhetoric and Composition and the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC). She has secured funding for three grant-supported research projects and received the Richard Braddock Award for scholarly contributions. Her work emphasizes creating opportunities for others through editorial initiatives and collaborative research.
Teaching includes courses like Academic Literacies, Public Literacies, and College Writing Writ Large. She mentors students through independent studies, internships, and honors research projects. Fishman’s office hours are held virtually and in-person during Spring 2025.
