Jeffrey R. Schneider, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbial Pathogens and Immunity at Rush Medical College, Rush University. His research focuses on HIV antibody distribution and neutralizing antibody responses in infectious diseases, with significant adaptation to SARS-CoV-2 research during the pandemic.
Dr. Schneider's primary research interests include:
- HIV antibody distribution and mucosal immunology
- Development of platforms to track antibody distribution in plasma, tissue, and cervical fluid
- Neutralizing antibody responses in infectious diseases
- Passive immunization strategies for disease prevention
- Antibody glycosylation patterns and immune function
His laboratory has developed methodologies to study how antibodies accumulate at mucosal surfaces to prevent pathogen transmission. This work has direct applications for HIV prevention strategies and has been adapted to study neutralizing antibody responses in COVID-19 patients, as evidenced by his 2022 Cell Reports publication on IgG glycosylation predicting disease severity and vaccine response.
Dr. Schneider has received substantial funding from the NIH (K01OD024882 and R21MH125339) and the Walder Foundation for research on HIV antibodies and SARS-CoV-2 immune responses, including projects characterizing neutralizing antibody responses, vaccine durability, and breakthrough infections.
He mentors multiple students including Paige Hays (MS Student), Allie Heller (PhD Candidate), Gabrielle Kooi (PhD Candidate), and Margaret Lopez (BTN Student), while collaborating with researchers across Rush University's Microbial Pathogens and Immunity department.
