Jeffrey R. Mountain is a Professor and Founding Program Director of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL), part of the College of Science and Engineering. He holds a BSME, MSME, and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington. With over 30 years of academic experience, Dr. Mountain has held faculty roles at UT-Arlington, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Norwich University. He spearheaded the Mechanical Engineering programs at The University of Texas at Tyler and UHCL, serving as a tenured faculty member, department chair, and ABET evaluator. His teaching spans 16 courses, including CAD/Graphics, Electro-Mechanical Systems, and Sustainable Energy Systems.
Dr. Mountain’s expertise lies in Mechatronics, Industrial Robotics, Fuzzy Logic, and Laser Fabrication. He actively contributes to ABET accreditation processes and serves on ASME committees. His research focuses on engineering education pedagogy, student retention strategies, and design methodologies. Notable awards include the Tau Beta Pi Distinguished Service Award (2017), Alpha Chi Outstanding Faculty recognitions (2000, 2005), and Best Professor accolades (2001). He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and a registered Master Plumber.
