Jeffrey Drope

Jeffrey Drope is a Research Professor at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he examines fiscal policies as tools for public health improvement. He directs the Economics for Health research project and serves as an international co-editor for the Tobacco Atlas.

Drope's research focuses on taxation, trade, and investment policies affecting tobacco, alcohol, nutrition, and physical activity. His tobacco control work investigates taxation models, illicit trade patterns, and economic costs, while exploring regulatory frameworks for novel products like e-cigarettes. He also researches the economic dimensions of tobacco farming and alternative livelihoods.

With over 200 publications including peer-reviewed articles, books, and technical reports, Drope provides policy guidance to governments worldwide. Recent publications examine tobacco taxation efficacy, poverty among tobacco farmers, and policy impacts on youth smoking behaviors.
