Jeffrey D. Winkler

Jeffrey D. Winkler is Merriam Professor of Chemistry and Undergraduate Chair at the University of Pennsylvania. His research develops novel synthetic methodologies and applies them to complex natural products with biological significance, including anticancer agents like ingenol and cortistatin A.

Research areas include:

• Dioxenone and vinylogous amide photocycloadditions
• Total synthesis of bioactive natural products
• Design of Hedgehog signaling inhibitors
• Development of BRAF kinase inhibitors

Winkler collaborates with medical researchers on autophagy inhibitors for cancer therapy and hemoglobin ligands for sickle cell treatment. He maintains an active research group focused on synthetic solutions to medicinal challenges.
