Jeff Powell is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Greenwich's School of Accounting, Finance and Economics. He joined the university in 2014 and is affiliated with the Institute of Political Economy, Governance, Finance and Accountability (PEGFA) and the Greenwich Political Economy Research Centre (GPERC). A founding member of Reteaching Economics, he holds a PhD from SOAS, University of London, where his research examined financialization in emerging capitalist economies, particularly Mexico.
His research interests include the financialisation of emerging economies, changes in corporate funding behaviors, and community-led economic development. Work spans monetary policy, feminist economics, and sustainable structural transformation, with a focus on power dynamics in global finance.
Recent publications primarily explore financial subordination, monetary policy, and decolonizing economics education. Articles frequently address systemic inequalities in global financial systems and policy implications for emerging economies.
