Jeff Leggit

Jeff Leggit, MD, CAQSM, serves as Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Family Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), Bethesda, MD. He directs Healthcare Operations for the University Family Health Center, leads the School of Medicine's Musculoskeletal Curriculum, and is key faculty for the National Capital Consortium's Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship.

His educational background:

• Bachelor of Science in Biology from Norwich University (1986-1990)
• Doctor of Medicine from Uniformed Services University (1990-1994)

Dr. Leggit's research integrates Medical Education with Operational Medicine and Military Readiness, emphasizing Sports Medicine and Musculoskeletal Medicine applications in military contexts. His work focuses on enhancing clinical training for operational environments through curriculum development and fellowship programs.

As fellowship faculty, he mentors Primary Care Sports Medicine trainees. His significant grant leadership includes directing the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) with a $500 million annual budget, managing 17 research portfolios spanning breast cancer, prostate cancer, neurofibromatosis, and autism spectrum disorders.

Dr. Leggit contributes to USUHS's military medical mission through the Family Medicine Department and University Family Health Center, supporting operational readiness and advancing military sports medicine education.
