About
Jeff Grischow is Professor of History at Wilfrid Laurier University specializing in African history, disability studies, and development history. His research examines disability rights, inclusive education, and historical development paradigms in Ghana through community-engaged scholarship. Current projects focus on implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Ghana and tackling structural barriers in research partnerships between Ghanaian and Canadian institutions.
Grischow's scholarship analyzes the intersection of colonial legacies, post-independence development policies, and contemporary disability rights movements. His work employs qualitative methodologies including oral histories and community-based participatory research to center the experiences of persons with disabilities.
Publications reflect his focus on disability justice, mental health services, inclusive education, and decolonizing research practices. Recent articles examine stigma reduction strategies, socio-economic impacts of mental healthcare, and equitable international research collaborations.
He teaches courses on African history, colonial development, and disability rights while supervising graduate research. Grischow maintains active research partnerships in Ghana addressing the implementation gap between disability rights legislation and lived experiences.
