Jeff Amato is Professor of Structural Geology at New Mexico State University and a Fellow of the Geological Society of America. His research combines field mapping, geochronology, and structural analysis to study tectonic processes in New Mexico, Alaska, and the Arctic. He directs the Southern Rift Institute and mentors graduate students in projects ranging from Proterozoic crustal evolution to Rio Grande rift dynamics.
Publications investigate subduction accretion, detrital zircon provenance, and volcanic flare-ups. Current fieldwork includes Lake Clark National Park (Alaska) and Proterozoic terrains in New Mexico.
Courses taught: Structural Geology (470), Field Geology (490), and Geochronology (585).
