Jef Verschueren is a Professor of Linguistics at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and has held leadership roles including Dean of the Faculty of Arts (2001–2009). He earned his Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on linguistic pragmatics, intercultural communication, and the sociocultural dimensions of language use.
Key affiliations include the International Pragmatics Association (IPrA), which he founded and leads as Secretary General. He has held visiting professorships at institutions such as Dalian University of Technology (China), the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (France), and Monash University (Australia).
