Jeanne Abbott is a Professor of Journalism and Managing Editor of the Columbia Missourian at the Missouri School of Journalism, University of Missouri. She joined in 2007 as a Knight Center for Editing Excellence fellow. Previously, she served as Assistant Managing Editor at the Des Moines Register and worked at the Sacramento Bee and Anchorage Daily News. She holds four degrees from the University of Missouri: bachelor's degrees in English and Journalism (1967), a master's degree (1969), and a doctorate in Journalism (1988). Her teaching experience includes positions at California State University and the Missouri School of Journalism.
Her research focuses on journalism education, editing practices, and media studies, particularly through her leadership at the Columbia Missourian laboratory newspaper.
In 2019, she was awarded the O.O. McIntyre Professorship for Teaching Excellence for her fearless editorial leadership, committee work, international programming, and selfless dedication to students and colleagues.
