Jean Truman

Jean Truman serves as Associate Professor of Nursing and Director of the Nursing Division within the Division of Biological and Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. She joined Pitt-Bradford in 2003 as an adjunct clinical faculty member, transitioned to full-time assistant professor in 2004, earned tenure in 2015, and was promoted to Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs in 2017. Dr. Truman maintains active clinical practice as a nursing supervisor at Bradford Regional Medical Center and volunteers with the American Heart Association.

Her educational background includes:

• D.N.P. in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University (2008)
• M.S.N. in Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist from Gannon University (1993)
• B.S.N. from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (1987)

Dr. Truman's research centers on nursing education with primary focus on identifying predictors of NCLEX-RN success/failure in Associate Degree Nursing programs. She investigates program assessment methodologies and simulation-based learning using standardized patients to enhance clinical training. Her scholarly work has been presented at national conferences, contributing to curriculum development and assessment strategies in nursing education.

• Chair's Faculty Teaching Award (2009) from University of Pittsburgh at Bradford

As a Certified Nurse Educator (2009-2024), Dr. Truman mentors undergraduate nursing students in research and presentation skills across AS in Nursing and RN-BSN programs. She serves as Program Evaluator for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and holds leadership roles in professional organizations including American Nurses Association, National League for Nursing, and Sigma Theta Tau. Her clinical expertise integrates with academic leadership through ongoing practice at Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Truman directs simulation-based clinical training using standardized patients within the Nursing Division, creating immersive learning environments that bridge theoretical knowledge and real-world patient care scenarios for nursing students.
