About
Dr. Jean M. Bidlack is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Her research focuses on opioid receptor pharmacology, neuroimmune interactions, and medication development for cocaine and opioid abuse.
Education:
- PhD in Biophysics (1979), University of Rochester
- MS in Biophysics (1977), University of Rochester
- BA in Biology-Chemistry (1975), Skidmore College
Dr. Bidlack's work bridges structural chemistry and neuropharmacology, with a particular emphasis on G protein-coupled opioid receptor modulation, immune system receptor interactions, and long-acting drug design. She co-discovered Samidorphan, a compound in phase 3 trials for depression and schizophrenia.
Her laboratory investigates opioid receptor oligomerization and mu-delta heterodimerization, revealing novel mechanisms for analgesia and addiction treatment. Collaborations span institutions like Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Harvard Medical School.
Scientific Awards:
- NIH Senior Scientist Award (1998-2008)
- Wallace O. Fenn Mentor Award (1995)
- Excellence in Research Award (2007)
- Periclean Alumna Scholar (2004)
- University Dean's Award for Ph.D. Defenses (2007)
- Alumni Award for Graduate Education (2001)
- Distinguished Service Award (2005)
- College of CSR Reviewers (2010)
Dr. Bidlack's lab has produced 170+ publications and multiple patents. She mentors graduate students like Miriam Barnett and collaborates with immunologists, pharmacologists, and chemists to address addiction and CNS disorders.
