About
Professor Jayne Raisborough is a faculty member in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Leeds Beckett University, where she critically examines media representations and mediated cultures in relation to citizenship, identities, and bodily experiences, with particular focus on marginalized groups including older and fat individuals.
Her research centers on cultural shaping of subjectivities within neoliberal socio-economic contexts, spanning cultural studies, media studies, sociology, fat studies, and ageing studies. She investigates how representations of social class, gender, ethical consumption, anti-ageing practices, and women's gun ownership manifest as 'responsibilized' citizenship. Her work with the Centre for Culture and Humanities includes the projects "Spaces of Stigma; Spaces of Privilege" (analyzing spatial dimensions of inequality through urban environments and domestic residences) and "Ageing and Gender in Culture" (examining gendered ageing in cultural industries and speculative fiction).
