Jay Scheib

Jay Scheib is the Class of 1949 Professor of Music and Theater Arts at MIT, internationally recognized for genre-defying performances integrating physical theater with digital media. An OBIE and Guggenheim award-winning director, his work spans opera, musical theater, and experimental performance.

Notable productions include Wagner's 'Parsifal' at Bayreuth Festival (2023-2025), Jim Steinman's 'Bat Out of Hell' musical (West End/Toronto), and VR installation 'Sei Siegfried'. His research explores live cinema techniques, augmented reality in performance, and theatrical adaptation.

Honors include Time Out New York's 'Best Theater Director' and recognition by American Theater Magazine among artists shaping American theater. His pedagogical approach emphasizes motion theater, performance media, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
