Jay Foley

Jay Foley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry within the College of Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He holds a BS in Chemistry from Georgia Tech, an MS and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Chicago, and completed postdoctoral training at Argonne National Lab's Center for Nanoscale Materials.

His research examines light-matter interactions in nanoscale and molecular systems, developing theoretical frameworks for polariton chemistry and computational methods for quantum electrodynamics. He leads the 'Enhancing Science Courses by Integrating Python' (ESCIP) initiative, creating interactive educational tools for physical chemistry instruction.

Recent publications advance cavity QED methods, chiroptical spectroscopy of nanomaterials, and structure-property relationships in photonic crystals. His honors include NSF CAREER, Cottrell Scholar, and DOE Computational Chemical Science awards.
