Jay C. Buckey Jr.

Jay C. Buckey Jr. is an Adjunct Professor of Engineering at Thayer School of Engineering and a Professor of Medicine at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine. He holds dual expertise in engineering and clinical medicine, with a focus on aerospace medicine and hyperbaric systems. His research spans bubble detection, hearing assessment in HIV patients, and the physiological effects of microgravity.

He earned a BSEE (1977) and MD (1981) from Cornell University. Notable projects include investigating auditory neural processing in HIV/AIDS, hyperbaric oxygen therapy for ulcerative colitis, and using virtual reality for stress management in space environments.

His work often bridges clinical and engineering domains, addressing challenges in space physiology, decompression sickness, and medical technology development. Collaborations include studies on motion sickness mitigation and the neurological impacts of spaceflight.
