About
Javier Sanchez Romano is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Medical Biology, UiT The Arctic University of Norway. His primary role involves studying the antiviral immune functions of liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) through the SECVIR project. He collaborates on multiple initiatives, including the NORHED II project (2021–2026), addressing climate change and infectious diseases in Uganda/South Sudan, and an NFR project investigating reindeer supplementary feeding impacts.
His research spans infection biology, virology, and One Health, with a focus on Arctic and circumpolar health challenges. Key interests include zoonotic pathogens, reindeer health, and vector-borne diseases. Teaching responsibilities include MBI-2104 (Medical Microbiology) and MBI-3014 (Infection, Inflammation, and Immunity).
Recent publications highlight studies on brucellosis transmission dynamics in Uganda, tuberculosis management in South Sudan, and LSEC-mediated viral clearance mechanisms. His work on reindeer health includes investigations into keratoconjunctivitis, tick-borne encephalitis, and the impact of climate change on Arctic herding practices.
Javier has secured grants for developing a One Health master’s course and has contributed to projects analyzing reindeer herding sustainability and disease ecology. He is affiliated with the Vascular Biology research group and actively engages in interdisciplinary collaborations.
