Dr. Javier Rey-Maquieira Palmer is a Full Professor at the Department of Applied Economics within the Faculty of Economics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). His academic career spans two distinct periods: an initial phase marked by administrative roles (including Dean of the Faculty of Economics) from 2002–2009, followed by a dedicated focus on research and teaching in Tourism Economics since 2009. His work emphasizes the competitiveness of tourism destinations, integrating diverse subfields such as environmental economics, labor markets, and experiential tourism.
