Javier R. Viguri Fuente is a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cantabria (Spain), where he has been actively involved since 1992. He leads the research group GER (www.geruc.es), focusing on sustainable process systems, waste recovery, and circular economy strategies. His academic career includes a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Basque Country.
Research Interests: Prof. Viguri specializes in waste characterization, environmental management of sediments and industrial residues, decision-making tools for resource valorization, and kinetic modeling of trace element release from matrices like sediments and sunscreens. His work integrates Process Systems Engineering with sustainability principles.
Teaching & Leadership: He teaches Chemical Engineering at undergraduate and graduate levels, including the Master’s in Industrial Engineering Research and the Industrial Engineering Doctoral Program. He coordinates courses in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Sciences, including continuing education and summer programs. He is also on the Editorial Board of Integrated Environmental Assessment & Management (SETAC) and holds an ORCID ID: 0000-0002-6658-0429.
Professional Background: Before academia, he worked as Head of Laboratory at SADER, SA (1989) and Head of the Air Quality Department at the Basque Government (1990–1992). His research has produced over 100 JCR-indexed articles, 200 conference communications, and one invention patent. He holds six research sexenios from the CNEAI.
