Jason Turowetz is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research focuses on social theory, ethnomethodology, conversation analysis, health/medicine, race/ethnicity, and cultural studies. He has published in leading journals such as Sociological Theory, Social Psychology Quarterly, and Social Science & Medicine. His co-authored works include Autistic Intelligence (2022) and Morality in the Making (2023).
Teaching interests span sociological theory at both undergraduate and graduate levels, social stratification, race/ethnicity studies, inequality, social movements, and research methods. Courses taught include SOC 207B (Graduate Theory), SOC 185S (Undergraduate Theory), and SOC 108 (Research Methods).
Research emphasizes interactional methods to study institutional practices, diagnostic processes, and moral reasoning. Current projects involve analysis of clinical interactions and the sociological implications of diagnostic categorization systems.
