Professor Jason Roberts is a renowned academic and clinician-scientist at the University of Queensland (UQ), holding dual roles as Director of the UQ Centre for Clinical Research and NHMRC Leadership Fellow. He is also a Consultant Clinical Pharmacist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Interim Director of the Herston Infectious Diseases Institute (HeIDI). His research focuses on optimizing antimicrobial dosing in critically ill patients, with over 650 publications and $55 million in grants.
Roberts earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) from the University of Sydney and a PhD from UQ. He is an Associate Editor for multiple journals, including Pharmacotherapy and the Journal of Pharmacy Practice and Research, and has convened major conferences like the National Conference for the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia.
His research interests span antimicrobial pharmacokinetics, critical care medicine, and infectious diseases. Notably, he leads the RESPOND Centre of Research Excellence, which aims to reduce antimicrobial resistance through precision dosing. His awards include recognition as Australia’s top researcher in Critical Care and Communicable Diseases (2019) and leadership in clinical trials like the BLING III trial on beta-lactam infusions.
Roberts has supervised over 20 PhD students and oversees grants totaling millions, including studies on antibiotic stability, ECMO pharmacokinetics, and platform trials for Staphylococcus aureus infections. He is actively involved in translational research, bridging clinical practice and drug development.
