Jason Matthew Lewis Miller

Jason Matthew Lewis Miller, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Michigan Medical School. He specializes in dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) through clinical practice and laboratory research, focusing on retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) biology, lipid metabolism, and autophagy. He completed his undergraduate studies in biology at Stanford University, followed by an MD-PhD at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) under Steve Finkbeiner at Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease. Postgraduate training included an internal medicine internship at Kaiser Permanente Oakland, a pre-residency research fellowship, ophthalmology residency, and medical retina fellowship at the Kellogg Eye Center.

Dr. Miller’s research program develops primary and iPSC-derived RPE culture models to test therapeutic interventions for AMD. His lab investigates mechanisms of drusen formation, apoE secretion, and metabolic regulation in RPE cells. Current projects include autophagy inducers for dry AMD, lipid droplet dynamics, and computational modeling of neovascularization.
