Jason Linn is a Lecturer in the Department of History at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), part of the College of Liberal Arts. He specializes in Ancient Greece, Rome, Byzantium, Central Asian nomads, and world history. His research focuses on military logistics, nomadic empires, and material culture in antiquity. Linn teaches courses on Western Civilization, World History, and the history of warfare.
He holds a Ph.D. in History from UC Santa Barbara (2014), an M.A. in Classics from CU Boulder (2007), and a B.A. in Political Science from Western Michigan University (2002). His dissertation explored nighttime social history in ancient Rome.
His scholarly work includes articles on Hunnic invasions, Roman grain supply, and sensory studies of Roman domestic life. He has reviewed major works on nomadic empires and late antiquity. Linn has received multiple teaching awards including Cal Poly Phi Alpha Theta's Faculty of the Year (2017, 2018) and recognition for his teaching excellence at UCSB.
