About
Jasmin Glock is a Research Fellow within the Graduate Research College (GRK) 'Life Sciences – Life Writing' at Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, working on her dissertation project 'Diseases and Disabilities in North-American Gothic Fiction' under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mita Banerjee in the Department of English and American Studies.
Her research focuses on the intersection of disability studies and literary analysis, specifically examining how physical disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, and dementia are represented in North-American gothic fiction. Glock employs a 'binocular approach' that considers both metaphorical representations in the humanities and lived biomedical experiences from life sciences perspectives. She challenges the dichotomy between social and medical models of disability, arguing for their synthesis to better reflect the complexity of disability experiences.
Glock holds a binational master's degree in American Studies from the University of Mainz and the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France. As a scholar with cerebral palsy, she brings personal perspective to her academic work, emphasizing the importance of interdependency between life science and life writing to reduce stigma and improve quality of life for people with disabilities.
Her research has been recognized with the Best Presentation Award at the 16th International Conference on Disability and Media in 2022 for her paper analyzing disability representation in children's programming.

Glock previously served in the office of accessibility at the Université de Bourgogne, where she engaged in student advisory service and organized events promoting social inclusion on campus. Her work represents an important interdisciplinary contribution to understanding how literary representations shape societal perceptions of disability.
