Jarrett Blaustein

Jarrett Blaustein is an Associate Professor and Director of Education in the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) at the Australian National University (ANU), within the College of Asia and the Pacific. His research focuses on governance mechanisms during crises, particularly how policing networks adapt to climate-related risks and global security challenges. He has held academic positions at Aberystwyth University (2013–2015) and Monash University (2015–2022) before joining ANU in 2022.

Education: PhD in Law (Criminology) from the University of Edinburgh (2013), MSc in Criminology & Criminal Justice (2009), and MSc in International Relations (2008), both from the University of St Andrews.

Research Interests:

• Global crime governance and its historical dynamics
• Climate change impacts on security and policing strategies
• Nodal governance frameworks and transnational security networks
• Sustainable Development Goals integration in criminal justice systems

Notable Works: Authored/co-authored books including Unraveling the Crime Development Nexus (2022), Speaking Truths to Power: Policy Ethnography and Police Reform in Bosnia and Herzegovina (2015), and Place, Race and Politics: The Anatomy of a Law and Order Crisis (2021, awarded the Christine M. Alder Book Award in 2023).

Awards: Recipient of the 2023 Christine M. Alder Book Award for Place, Race and Politics, recognizing contributions to criminological scholarship.
