About
Jarod Daniel Alper is a Professor of Mathematics and Victor Klee Faculty Fellow at the University of Washington, where he also directs the Math AI Lab. His research focuses on algebraic geometry, particularly moduli spaces, stacks, and geometric invariant theory. Alper earned his PhD from Stanford University in 2008 under Ravi Vakil. He has held positions at institutions including Australian National University (2012–2016), Universidad de Los Andes (2011–2012), and Humboldt University (2013–2014). His work bridges foundational mathematics with computational tools, including contributions to formalizing commutative algebra in Lean.
Alper's teaching spans advanced topics such as commutative algebra, algebraic geometry, and mathematical formalization. He has received grants from the NSF and Simons Foundation, and his research has been supported by fellowships like the Alexander von Humboldt and ARC DECRA. His current interests include leveraging AI in mathematical research and education through the Math AI Lab.
