Jared Wallis

Dr. Jared Wallis serves as Assistant Professor of Music Performance at Ithaca College's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, specializing in trumpet performance and scholarly research. A proud citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, he bridges historical and contemporary musical practices through performance and academic inquiry.

Education:

• Doctorate and Performer’s Certificate from Eastman School of Music (studied with James Thompson and Boyde Hood)
• Master’s degree and Arts Leadership Certificate from Eastman School of Music (early music studies under Brian Shaw, John Thiessen, Christel Thielmann, and Paul O’Dette)
• Bachelor’s degree from University of Kentucky (studied with Jason Dovel, summa cum laude)

Research Interests:

Dr. Wallis focuses on historical performance practice and contemporary electroacoustic performance, with deep expertise in baroque trumpet and early music. His interdisciplinary work examines the intersection of historical authenticity and modern technological innovation in musical expression, frequently exploring underrepresented perspectives in brass performance traditions.

Scientific Awards:

• 1st prize at the North American Baroque Trumpet Competition (2022)
• 3rd prize in graduate division of National Trumpet Competition (2019)
• 2nd prize in ensemble division of National Trumpet Competition (2014)

Performance and Collaborations:

Dr. Wallis maintains an active performance career with ensembles including Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphoria, Eastman Wind Ensemble, Sonitus Clarissima Historical Trumpet and Kettledrums, Mountainside Baroque, and Pegasus Early Music. He has shared stages with Sarah McLachlan, Renée Fleming, and Lang Lang, and regularly features at the Rochester Early Music Festival. His conference presentations span the American Musicological Society, International Trumpet Guild Conference, and International Women’s Brass Conference.
