Jared Bates

Jared Bates is a Professor of Philosophy at Hanover College, where he has taught since joining the department in 2005. He actively contributes to the institution through teaching, committee service, and professional engagement in the philosophical community.

Professor Bates specializes in naturalism within epistemology and physicalism in the philosophy of mind. His teaching portfolio spans foundational philosophy, reason and belief systems, rational decision theory, formal logic, and interdisciplinary connections between philosophy and science. His research critically examines how naturalistic frameworks address traditional epistemological questions and mental phenomena within a physicalist worldview.

Professor Bates has served Hanover College extensively as a member of nearly all major faculty committees, elected faculty representative to the Board of Trustees, and member of the Presidential Search Committee.
