About
Prof. Janneke Hille Ris Lambers is a Full Professor at the Department of Environmental Systems Science, ETH Zürich, specializing in plant community ecology and global change impacts. Her work focuses on plant coexistence mechanisms, climate-driven shifts in species distributions, and ecological responses to environmental changes. She leads research projects on mast seeding, seedling regeneration niches, alpine phenology, and climate refugia.
Education and Career: She holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. from Duke University (USA). Postdoctoral training included positions at the University of Minnesota and University of California, Santa Barbara. She served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington, Seattle before joining ETH Zürich in 2020.
Research Themes:
- Climate change effects on plant communities
- Phenological shifts and biodiversity
- Seed dispersal and niche dynamics
- Forest resilience to extreme events
Teaching: Offers courses on plant sciences, ecological processes, and environmental biology. Active in citizen science initiatives like MeadoWatch to track wildflower phenology.
Key Projects: Investigates alpine floral reassembly with warming, climate lag effects on species ranges, and microclimate buffering in forests. Integrates remote sensing and machine learning to analyze large ecological datasets.
