Janice L Gabrilove, MD, FACP, is the James F. Holland Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She holds dual professorships in Oncological Sciences and Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. Her roles include Director of the Clinical Research Education Program (Certificate, Master of Science, and PhD in Clinical Research), Co-Director of the PORTAL Program, and Associate Director of Education and Training at The Tisch Cancer Institute. An internationally recognized expert in hematopoietic growth factors, she co-invented the patent for G-CSF and pioneered its use in stem cell transplantation.
Education: MD from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai; Residency in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University; Fellowship in Hematology & Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Research: Focuses on hematopoietic reconstitution, G-CSF clinical utility, CLL therapeutic strategies, and arsenical-based apoptosis induction. Her work has revolutionized stem cell transplantation protocols and led to FDA-approved leukemia drugs. Current projects include novel therapies for CLL and experimental therapeutics.
Awards: 2009 Best Doctors (New York Magazine), ASCI Elected Membership, FDA Advisory Committee service. Mentor to over 38 residents, fellows, and junior faculty.
Leadership: Developed clinical research training programs and contributed to the PORTAL joint MD/MSc program. Industry relationships include board service with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and consulting roles at leading institutions.
