Janet Williams, PhD, RN, FAAN, is a Professor in the Department of Nursing at the University of Iowa. She serves as Chair of the University of Iowa Behavioral and Social Science Institutional Review Board and directs the Enrichment Core of the Center for Advancing Multimorbidity Science (CAMS). Her work focuses on genetics nursing, family caregiving, and ethical implications of genomic research.

Dr. Williams’ research explores day-to-day function in individuals with prodromal Huntington disease, caregiving dynamics in families affected by genetic disorders, and ethical frameworks for disclosing secondary genomic findings. Her expertise extends to national and international genetics nursing initiatives, including leadership roles in the International Society of Nurses in Genetics.
Scientific recognition includes her Fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). She represents the academy on the Institute of Medicine’s Roundtable on Genomics and Precision Health.
Affiliated with the University of Iowa’s Center for Advancing Multimorbidity Science (CAMS) and the Csomay Center for Gerontological Excellence, Dr. Williams’ research has been supported by grants from the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), NHGRI, HRSA, and the CHDI Foundation. Her leadership also includes directing a postdoctoral fellowship program funded by NINR.
