Dr. Janet M Averett is a Professor of Music & Dance and Associate Director at San José State University's School of Music. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy and D.M.A. from Northwestern University and the University of Michigan. Specializing in clarinet performance and orchestral conducting, she has performed with renowned ensembles including Opera San José, Symphony Silicon Valley, and the New Sousa Band. Her teaching spans clarinet instruction, music literature, and conducting, with roles as conductor of the University Symphony Orchestra (2000-2010) and founder of the San José Clarinet Choir. She has led clinics on woodwind pedagogy and adjudicated regional music festivals.
