Janet Asper is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University of Mary Washington.
- Education: B.S. in Biochemistry and Zoology from Ohio University, Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh.
Her research focuses on organic and bioorganic chemistry, particularly protecting group methods for guanidine functional groups and the application of NMR spectroscopy in organic chemistry and chemical education. She collaborates with the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, VA, to maintain a Navy-owned NMR spectrometer at UMW.
Notable awards include the Distinguished Service Award from the Virginia Section of the American Chemical Society and a 2006 Petroleum Research Fund grant from the American Chemical Society. She serves as Alternate Councilor for the Virginia Local Section of the American Chemical Society and is a member of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, the American Chemical Society, and its Chemical Education and Organic divisions.
