Jane Webb

Dr. Jane Webb is a Reader and Head of the School for Cross-faculty Studies at the University of Warwick. She holds a PhD in social history and material culture, with prior training in art history and anthropology. Her academic career spans over two decades, including leadership roles at Manchester School of Art (Manchester Metropolitan University) and Wolverhampton School of Art (University of Wolverhampton).

Her research focuses on material culture through visual and practice-based methodologies, engaging with archives, historical geographies, and dress collections to explore personal histories. Teaching specialties include material culture and creative thinking across disciplines. She maintains discussion hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3 pm in the Ramphal Building.

Prior academic roles include Director of Studies in Design at Manchester School of Art and Deputy Head of Wolverhampton School of Art. Her work emphasizes collaborative practices in art and design, with a focus on historical authenticity and interdisciplinary methods.

Publications span material culture studies, fashion history, and collaborative art practices. Current research explores intersections between material objects and embodied memory through textile-based projects.
