Jane Sowden is an Academic Tutor in Education and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at the University of Sunderland, where she also teaches part-time. She concurrently holds a part-time role in German language instruction at Durham University's Centre for Foreign Language Study. With over 30 years of teaching experience spanning schools (Key Stages 2-5), special needs education, further education (FE), and higher education (HE), her expertise includes EAP modules (Pre-Sessional EAP, EAP113, EAP216, EAP218, EAP145) and education-focused courses such as PRI107, PRI109, and EPDM01.
Her professional activities extend to roles as an MFL examiner for two English examination boards, a consultant for educational publishers (e.g., Sam Learning, Harper Collins), and co-author of the German Grammar Toolkit for Boardworks. She actively engages in continuing professional development, including INSET leadership and materials authoring.
